  • Double Chewy Flapjacks

    Ingredients

    Pinch of salt

    450g porridge oats

    100g butter

    100g margarine

    200g soft dark brown sugar (or granulated white if you prefer lighter flavour)

    120–140g golden syrup (≈ 6 tbsp)

    Method

    1. Preheat oven to 180°C (160°C fan) / 350°F. Line a larger tin (about 30 × 20cm) with baking paper.
    2. Melt butter, margarine, sugar, and syrup gently in a saucepan until smooth.
    3. Stir in oats until fully coated.
    4. Press mixture firmly into the tin — compacting is key for chewiness.
    5. Bake for 15–20 minutes.
      • 15 min → chewy and soft.
      • 20 min → firmer, more golden.
    6. Cool in the tin for 15 minutes before cutting into bars.

    Yield

    • This batch will make about 24 squares/bars (depending on how you cut them).
